On February 3rd 2023, the ECSB met with Prof. Marilù Chiofalo, invited guest from the university of Pisa for the “Women and girls in Science day”. Marilù discussed with the representatives the state of Women's presence in Academia and the differences between different institutes and countries. The chat took place before her seminar, bringing up several topics and ideas that were incidentally also part of the planned seminar, such as the existence of issues that, while not based on gender roles, do affect women disproportionately. Diversity of thought and opinion was at the center of the dialogue, with the participants free of expressing themselves and analyzing together the state of Academia. Authority and the different ways of exerting it without infringing on others were discussed, together with how inappropriate expectations placed on others play a significant role in shaping their behavior.
